Steve Bell

As you may know, we’ve uploaded some short STOIC programmes to YouTube.

Also on YouTube is Imperial College Television Studio. We had a lovely email from Steve Bell who was an active member of STOIC when it was based in ICTV. I’m copying it in full here.

Hi, Rex,

I worked with Colin in the time of Mike Southern, Clive Dewey, Selwyn Castleden and just into the Mark Cauldwell era. For example, I was running telecine for the James Burke interview, so you could say it was early(ish) days!

If you watch the “Topic” intro from January 1974 (!) mine is the first voice and face you see and hear. I can hardly believe it myself.

Colin will have many more stories than I have – he’s spent his entire working life with the IC Television Studio – every minute of it! 🙂 He has quite a few clips, too – including that ’74 intro! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ztKTJdxXl6c

Pstoic looks very interesting. I will visit from time to time, but I doubt I have much to add. Good luck with the general Stoic Alumni project.

Best Wishes,
Steve Bell.

2009 Annual Dinner over

The annual dinner took place with 23 ex stoic and IC Radio members attending.

It was a great turn out, so thanks to everyone who made it. We started in the Hoop and Toy for a quick half. Then we trundled down to the Rembrandt where I was disappointed to not see our name up on the Conferences notice board, considering the struggle it had been to make the booking. As usual we could barely squeeze into the restuarant, but luckily (or maybe becuase of the noise we were making) it went down from 3 other tables to zero later. After the 3 course dinner there were a few words from myself, but the much anticipated “humorous moment” traditionally supplied by Richard Fincher did not happen. Still there’s always next year.

Andy Clark brought along a microscopic flea chariot, made in his own workshop. Whether or not this will be included in the upcoming Terminator 3 remake is not known. Something sure to be in it though was the “Hemorrhoids” ball from Tim Harcourt is bound to be.

If you didn’t make it this year, please put the date in your diary for 2010 – second Saturday in January – although it’s been suggested we make it nearer New Year – we’ll see if there’s much interest in changing the date.
